Career options after studying commerce
We often see that commerce students talk about alternatives to doing BCom, or the possible career paths after studying BCom. In this post, we share a quick list of career options to apply different skills and subjects that you learn in commerce.
When the commerce students and their parents seek career guidance and counselling to select careers options, the common statements revolve around the subjects, for example:
- “Should I study law?”, or
- “Does financial analysis have a good scope?”, or
- “Is CA still a reputed career option?”, or
- “What is the scope of studying advanced macro economics in India?”
These questions do not address the key concern because these mean different things to different students and families. Fitness and lifestyle
Sportswear: Brands such as Decathlon needs financial strategy, legal consultants, and the experts in economics and business administration for their overall business operations.
Fitness and wellness: Modern gyms and yoga centers need fullcycle services teams including experts for finance, legal advice, sales forecasting, budgeting for marketing, and strategic support for their business models
Gaming and entertainment
Roles: e-sports sponsorship, gaming operations for digital UX, financial and policy roles
Industries: Streaming platforms, media and entertainment startups such as in gaming
Trends: Gaming industry is on the rise worldwide and this hows in Indian market as well
Space commerce
Trends: India’s private space industry is opening recently, and it is on growth
Roles: Satellite project finance, legal and policy, business operations
Industries: Space-tech startups, defense, logistics such as drone makers, space equipment manufacturing agencies.
These examples give you some ideas of how you should think of specific industries and categories of organizations. It means that you can build complimentary skills to support your commerce knowledge depending on what exactly you want to do.
