Letters

Those who are on steering are writing letters to their loved ones.

Mehar Kaul wanted to be a sports coach and she loved being among the sportspersons. After using steering, she shares the experience with her dad.

Hi Dad

As I was sitting in the park looking at kids playing on the swings, I recalled our walks here in the same park. School was fun and after mom left, we both experienced a complicated silence at home.

I had to go to college not sure what I should do and you wanted me to study design—art or decor or even fashion design. Those rainy evenings were so lonely and complex, as if I had nowhere to go.

Two days before we both decided to visit the NIFC center, I found Steering and I checked it out of curiosity. For a minute, I felt like I was speaking to myself—the honest self, asking me and answering me. My time in Steering was like a self-therapy for me—it helped me speak to myself.

I brought out some notes from my cupboard where I would draw pictures of my thoughts—college, subjects, career. So much randomness in the shape of uncertainty.

Sometimes we do not need an answer—we just need a listener. Something that does not question back or argue, it just listens to us. Like the trees or the artwork on street walls.

Steering felt like that listener. I know what to do now—by learning art and where to apply the design learnings. I will share more in my next letters but for the moment, I am on my steering. On my own path.

Thank you for everything.
